Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheats & Codes – Complete Guide

Red Dead Redemption 2 includes a hidden collection of cheat codes that can change the way Arthur Morgan experiences the Wild West. These cheats can provide weapons, money, horses, unlimited ammunition, stronger abilities, altered honor, reduced wanted levels and several unusual world effects.

Unlike traditional cheat menus, many RDR2 codes are entered as phrases. Some are immediately available, while others require a specific newspaper to have been purchased before the code can be activated.

How to Enter Cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2

1. Pause the game.
2. Open Settings.
3. Press Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox to open the Cheats section.
4. Press the same button again to reveal the text-entry field.
5. Enter the cheat phrase exactly as shown below.
6. Activate the unlocked cheat from the menu.

After a valid code is entered, the game displays a confirmation message. Cheats can be switched on or off from the same menu.

Newspaper Cheat Codes

Several of the more powerful cheats are connected to newspapers found throughout the game. Newspapers become available as Arthur progresses through the story, and certain editions contain phrases that unlock additional cheats.

The main newspaper publications are Blackwater Ledger, New Hanover Gazette and Saint Denis Times. The exact newspaper needed depends on the cheat and the point reached in the story.

If a code does not activate immediately, check whether its newspaper requirement has been completed. Having the appropriate newspaper in the inventory is important for some of the locked cheats.

What Happens When You Use Cheats?

Red Dead Redemption 2 treats cheats differently from ordinary gameplay options. Once a cheat is activated, normal progression features are restricted. Most importantly, you cannot save your progress while cheats are active, and achievements or trophies are disabled.

For that reason, it is a good idea to create a manual save before experimenting with the cheat menu. When you want to return to normal gameplay, disable the cheats and reload an appropriate save.

Is There a Money Cheat in RDR2?

Yes. The cheat phrase Greed is now a virtue adds $500 to your character's money. It is useful when you want to experiment with purchases without spending time earning cash normally.

There are also gameplay exploits that have historically been used to obtain large amounts of money, but these are different from the game's built-in cheat system and may behave differently depending on the game version.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheats: Quick Summary

The cheat system covers almost every major part of the single-player experience. You can manipulate Arthur's health and Dead Eye, change honor and wanted levels, obtain weapons, summon different horses and vehicles, reveal the map, refill important stats and even create unusual situations such as drunkenness or circus wagons.

Because some codes are locked behind story progression and newspapers, it is worth keeping this list available as you progress through the game. For the safest experience, save before activating any cheat and return to a normal save when you are finished experimenting.
